Shiatsu is a form of massage developed and widely practiced in Japan. It does however stem from the Ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture. Shiatsu adopted finger pressure or “acupressure,” as oppose to the use of needles as seen with acupuncture. It can be considered a deep tissue massage, placing pressure on the meridian points with both palms and fingers to improve the flow of energy (Qi) in the body. Shiatsu practice considers optimal health to be a generous free flow of energy (Qi) throughout the body. When energy (Qi) is blocked, lacking, or out of balance, illness, pain and poor health conditions arise in the body.
